I am a police officer based at Baird Street Police Office in Glasgow and, as such, cover the Sighthill and Petershill housing estates which house the majority of Scotland's asylum seeker community.
I am proud of the stance taken by the Scottish Executive and my own Force, Strathclyde Police, in relation to combating the scourge of racism which destroys community cohesion.
There is a lot of good work being undertaken both by community officers and core shift personnel. I want people to know that there is a genuine willingness on our part to improve people's lives, no matter their colour, religion or culture.
I would ask all members of the community to give us their support and to have the confidence to report racist incidents to us, which will be vigorously investigated.
We are determined to help and feel confidant that we can make our communities better for everyone. Scotland has a proud tradition of welcoming strangers.
Let's not allow a mindless minority to marginalise any group within our country.
