I am a black, Glasgow-based student who used to take the bus as part of my daily commute to campus.
On many occasions, I observed the bus driver painstakingly examine my bus pass, while other (mainly white) passengers would be allowed on the bus with barely a cursory glance given to their passes.
I ignored the matter until one wintry night when a bus failed to stop for me. I was feeling rather ill and was eager to get home and climb into bed.
This prompted me to write a letter of complaint, after which I received a prompt, apologetic reply. This provided some comfort, but did not appear to make a significant change to the quality of service.
Since then, I have moved to a new flat, where I can walk directly to the Underground, without having to take the bus. I can only hope that things have improved.
