Glasgow marks the Muslim celebration of Eid Al-Fitr with a free day of family music, street theatre and comedy. The Eid on the Drive Festival takes place on Albert Drive, Pollokshields on Wednesday October 1 with the emphasis firmly on fun – whatever your religion.
With 5,000 visitors to last year's inaugural event, organisers hope to bring even more families to Albert Drive this year, from all of the city's diverse backgrounds and cultures. Joining them will be top Asian comic Jeff Mirza (Bend it Like Beckham, White Teeth).
Mirza, who has recently finished work on a new film with Goodness Gracious Me's Meera Syal, said he was excited to be performing at Glasgow's Eid celebrations. "We should be pushing Eid for everyone," he said. "It's a great festival; the kids wear bright clothes, it's a happy time, and an ideal time for the community to show what they're all about.
Organiser Naeem Raza said: "This year’s event will be better than ever because the activities are at the next level, with stage performances, street performers, stalls and an innovative laser light show. We're really celebrating Eid with a focus 'on the drive' as opposed to cutting the drive off."
Eid on the Drive takes place at Albert Drive, Pollokshields, from 3pm – 8.30pm. Entry is free. For more details, go to
